Mary Jane has worked diligently to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot. She is always the voter’s advocate and will fight for you to make sure your vote is counted. Under Mary Jane's leadership, the voting process is accessible, accurate, fair, and inclusive.
Mary Jane was raised in middle Georgia, the daughter of a dairy farmer and elementary school teacher. While growing up, current events and government were always the topics of discussion in her home. She learned from her parents that involvement in your community was the rent you paid to live in this great democracy. Mary Jane's community involvement started as a child, where she was an active 4-H and Girl Scout member. Each fall, she and her brothers showed their dairy cattle at numerous fairs throughout Georgia. And her summers were spent selling peaches at a roadside stand in front of her house.
Upon graduation from high school, she attended college where her life took an exciting turn. She had every intention of majoring in Dairy Science. But once she took a Political Science Class, she found government was more interesting than dairy cattle. It was at college that her roommate introduced her to a fellow Kissimmee resident, her husband of over 50 years. After he graduated from the University of Georgia, they moved back to his hometown Kissimmee. She is married to college sweetheart Curtis, they have four adult children and four amazing grandchildren, who call her Honey. She is proud of her community and wants to continue serving you as the Supervisor of Elections.
Since arriving in Osceola County, Mary Jane has been involved in the community. She has volunteered at her church, children's schools, and numerous civic and charitable organizations.
Her first government service came when the County Commission appointed her to a regional Board, "The Commission on the Status of Women." Mary Jane has served in many government capacities over the years. She was the first woman to be elected the Osceola County Commission, where she served two terms, she was a founding Supervisor of the TOHO Water Authority and has had the honor and privilege to serve as Osceola County's Supervisor of Elections. She has also served on Metro Plan: Lynx Board of Directors, Kissimmee Planning Commission, and the Mid Florida Economic Development Commission.
Mary Jane continues to be involved in her community. She is a tireless volunteer for the YMCA. During the past decade, she has twice been recognized as the Central Florida YMCA Volunteer of the Year and was recognized as the Dr. P. Phillips Champion of Youth in 2009 for her work. She has chaired two capital campaigns, which raised more than $7 million for the renovation and expansion of the Osceola YMCA.
The experience Mary Jane brings to the Election Office is well rounded -that of an administrator, a voter, a candidate, and an active citizen of her community. She has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida.
